What happens if a model is removed from OpenRouter?

Your chat is kept. Conversations are plain text saved in your browser, so any other model can carry on from where it stopped.

Does every message resend the whole chat?

No. Each message sends only the last few exchanges word for word (3 by default, change it under 🧠) plus a short running summary of everything before. The model updates that summary with each reply, in the same response, so it costs no extra request. Models that cannot do this get the latest messages that fit instead.
